Work underway at Eureka Gardens as deadline nears

Contractors, plumbers and maintenance workers were back at it Tuesday at Eureka Gardens.
 
Crews are working to meet strict deadlines set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to get the complex up to code this week. Those efforts are underway as federal inspectors investigate the property’s owner, Global Ministries Foundation.
 
A spokesperson for Florida Senator… issued the following statement on the federal investigation.
 
“Senator Rubio supports an investigation by HUD’s Office of Inspector General into the many problems at Eureka Garden Apartments. If any wrongdoing or failure to comply with quality living standards is uncovered, the property’s owners should be held accountable. HUD should also take responsibility for its flawed inspection standards back when the property was originally inspected and slow response time when the issues were revealed. An investigation is imperative so that these problems don’t happen again at this facility or any other federal housing complex.”
