Video: This Immigration Bill Doesn’t Solve the Problem
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a video explaining why the Senate immigration “deal” wouldn’t solve President Joe Biden’s immigration crisis.
A broadcast-quality version of the video can be downloaded HERE and a transcript of his remarks is below.
- “We already have immigration laws and they define who can come. And it says that anyone who is here illegally shall be detained until they’re removed or their case is settled. The reason why we have an immigration crisis is because the Biden administration has decided that instead of applying that law, they’ve taken narrow exceptions to the detention requirement and are applying it to 85% of the people coming. So if you know you have an 85% chance to come to America and they’re going to release you into the country, of course, you’re going to come and more people are going to come behind you. And this bill, this deal that they’re talking about doesn’t solve that problem. On the contrary, what actually, for the first time in our history, gives asylum officers, not judges, asylum officers, the opportunity to grant people asylum right there at the border. And then five years later, they can become citizens. So it doesn’t solve the problem. And to me, if we’re going to move on, things that I support, like Ukraine, we also have to protect America by securing our border. And until we get there, I won’t be able to support this.”
