This Polish Independence Day, Rubio Reaffirms U.S.-Polish Alliance

Nov 11, 2015 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement marking Polish Independence Day:

“I congratulate the Polish nation and the people of Poland on their national Independence Day, commemorating the day when Poland regained its independence in 1918 following over a century of partition by outside powers.  Just a year later, the United States and Poland established diplomatic relations—a friendship based on common values that has endured through decades of transformation in Poland.  Since Poland again regained independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union, we have seen Poland transition from a member of the Warsaw Pact to a critical NATO ally and democratic leader in Europe that has stood by America in confronting international challenges.

“On a day when we celebrate Poland regaining its independence, we also must recognize that Poland is now at the front lines of efforts to prevent new divisions in Europe.  I join the people of Poland and the millions of Americans who trace their ancestry to Poland in celebrating Polish independence and continuing to ensure that our shared hard-fought freedoms are preserved in the years to come.”
