During the 2009 United Nations General Assembly, President Barack Obama voted for the United States to participate in negotiating an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). The ATT has the potential to restrict the Second Amendment rights our Constitution entitles us as Americans.
On July 22, 2011 I joined 44 of my colleagues in sending a letter to President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton informing them that we would block this treaty from passing the Senate if it, in any way, would stop law abiding American citizens from exercising one of the many rights were are guaranteed by the Constitution. Secretary Clinton’s response promised ATT would not infringe on our Second Amendment rights and to be sure this does not happen, I cosponsored the Second Amendment Sovereignty Act.
