Strengthening Immigration Reform: Enhancing E-Verify Checks & Balances

May 16, 2013 | Press Releases

Grassley amendment will enhance E-Verify enforcement mechanisms (Amendment)

CONCERN WITH ORIGINAL BILL: While the immigration bill has been described as “the toughest immigration enforcement provisions ever seriously considered in Congress,” senators have said the details of the E-Verify requirements were not specific enough.

HOW THE AMENDMENT STRENGTHENS THE BILL: To improve the E-Verify system, Grassley 31 (as amended), requires weekly reports from the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of people reported as not authorized to work when processed through the E-Verify system.

All of the amendments submitted to the Committee on the Judiciary are available online for review here
