Senator Rubio Comments On President’s Western Hemisphere Affairs Nomination

Sep 28, 2011 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, the ranking member of the Senate’s Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps and Global Narcotics Affairs, today issued the following statement following President Obama’s nomination of Roberta Jacobson to be Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the Department of State:

“As this nomination is considered by the Senate, I look forward to meeting with Ms. Jacobson, thoroughly vetting her record and determining what we can expect from her in this role. I am particularly interested in gauging whether her nomination will mark a renewed commitment to our Western Hemisphere interests, a rethinking of our rudder-less Cuba policy that rewards the Castro regime at the expense of freedom fighters, and an acknowledgment that inaction on trade agreements has cost America jobs and alienated our friends.”
