Senator Rubio Co-Sponsors Resolution To Rescind U.N. Report On Israel

Apr 15, 2011 | Blog

This week, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution that asked the United Nations to rescind a report that unfairly concluded Israel targeted attacks on civilians during 2008-2009. The report, known as the Goldstone Report, accused Israel of potential war crimes. Since its publication, the lead fact-finder has said he was wrong to have made these conclusions.

As a co-sponsor of this resolution, Senator Rubio helped lead the effort to “redress the damage to Israel’s reputation” that this report may have caused. Furthermore, the resolution urges U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon to reform the largely discredited Human Rights Council, which “unfairly, disproportionately and falsely criticizes Israel on a regular basis.”

Senator Rubio has long stood with Israel, saying just last year, “America’s leaders must commit to getting the United States back on a path of standing firmly alongside Israel.  This means supporting Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state and its ability to defend its people against terror, including homicide bombings, rocket and mortar fire, and other attacks.”
