Rubio Welcomes Senate Action To Deal With Puerto Rico Debt Crisis
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today commented after the Senate passed legislation to deal with Puerto Rico’s debt crisis, which he voted in favor of. The bill now heads to the President to be signed into law.
“The road ahead won’t be easy and we need to be realistic about that, but Puerto Ricans have reason for optimism and a real chance to turn the page on years of economic hardship and despair created by irresponsible politicians and Washington indifference,” said Rubio. “The changes I supported mean Puerto Rico will not face default, American taxpayers won’t foot the bill for a bailout, and Puerto Ricans will begin to have a path forward to economic growth, fiscal stability and prosperity.
“The Puerto Rican people themselves never wanted a handout from Washington, and they stand willing to do the difficult work of addressing their challenges but need their leaders to follow suit,” added Rubio. “I’m proud to stand with the Puerto Rican people today as we begin the process of working together toward a stronger, more stable and more prosperous Puerto Rico.”
