Rubio Welcomes Federal Disaster Declaration in Response to Hurricane Hermine

Sep 28, 2016 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement today after President Obama granted Florida Governor Rick Scott’s request for a federal disaster declaration in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Hermine:

“I’m glad President Obama granted this federal disaster declaration. When I visited Leon County and saw for myself the destruction caused by Hurricane Hermine, and learned of the damage sustained by the coast, I knew a declaration would be a critical step in Florida’s recovery. I urge the federal government to move quickly in completing its assessments of the remaining Florida counties and disbursing this assistance so our communities have the support they need to continue rebuilding.”

Last week, Rubio urged the President to approve Governor Scott’s request. On September 3, Rubio visited a Tallahassee neighborhood and met with Leon County community leaders and officials about recovery efforts.
