Rubio Welcomes CBO Letter Re-Affirming That Immigration Cost Analyses Should Account For Economic Benefits Of Immigration
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) letter to House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) outlining how the CBO would analyze immigration reform legislation.
In the letter, CBO director Douglas W. Elmendorf outlines a variety of factors that would generate revenue stemming from growth tied to immigration reform. The letter cites examples of how previous immigration bills considered in Congress would contribute to positive economic growth.
“The CBO confirmed today what we’ve known all along – that dealing with our immigration challenges of course has costs associated with it, but that it also holds enormous potential for economic growth and job creation that benefits all Americans,” said Rubio. “Conservative economists say immigration reform will generate trillions in new economic growth and create jobs that will benefit the middle class.
“Today’s broken immigration system is bad for our security, sovereignty and economy,” he added. “In the end, securing our borders and modernizing our legal immigration system will be a net benefit for America, because immigration has always been a net benefit for America.”
