Rubio: “What the Democrats are saying, what the President is saying, is they are willing to shut down the government unless it funds ObamaCare. And I think that is a completely unreasonable position and one that when it is outlined to the American people, they are not going to support.”

Senator Marco Rubio: “We are not threatening to shut down the government. We are fully prepared, despite the fact that we are not fans of short-term budgets, we are fully prepared to support one so long as it does not fund ObamaCare because it is a disaster. This is no longer an ideological thing. To our opposition, it is just, ‘We know this is bad for the country and it expands government beyond where it should be.’ But at this point it is hurting real people, people that I have met. People who have insurance that they are happy with, that they are going to lose it. Small businesses that are not going to hire people or are going to move people to part-time work. And so, at this point in time, all we are saying is, ‘Let’s not fund that. Let’s fund the rest of the government, but let’s not fund that.’ And what the Democrats are saying, what the President is saying, is they are willing to shut down the government unless it funds ObamaCare. And I think that is a completely unreasonable position and one that when it is outlined to the American people, they are not going to support. They are not going to support shutting down the government because it doesn’t fund ObamaCare, and that is what the President is threatening to do.”

Rubio: “Well good. Look at the end of the day, Mark, what I’ve told people about ObamaCare is, I understand the ideological arguments behind it. But over the last month and a half, I can’t tell you how many real people I’ve come face to face with, including people who voted for Obama, who are just panicked by what this is going to do to them as they’re finding out about it. My heart breaks for these people. It is not their fault that this is happening to them and we’ve got to do something. We can’t let this thing go in.”
