Rubio Statement on Justice Kennedy’s Retirement

Jun 27, 2018 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today after Justice Anthony Kennedy announced that he will retire on July 31, 2018:

“At a time when we need it more than ever, Justice Kennedy often spoke of the importance of civility in our political discourse and we are grateful for his years of service on the bench. Our nation was founded on the idea that all people have a God-given right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. With Justice Kennedy’s retirement, the Senate has the opportunity to confirm someone who is committed to protecting these rights through the principles of original intent and judicial restraint. I look forward to a fair and thorough confirmation process this fall.”
