Rubio Secures Critical Provisions for Northwest Florida Military Installations in Defense Bill

Dec 9, 2020 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) secured authorization in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021 (H.R. 6395) conference report for critical construction and infrastructure projects on military bases in Northwest Florida. The Senate is expected to pass the final conference report this week, sending it to the President.

“From the Gulf Test Range to Tyndall Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field, military operations in Northwest Florida play a critical role in our nation’s military readiness,” Rubio said. “I am proud to have secured congressional approval for the next phase of Gulf Range Modernization and a provision to ensure Tyndall Air Force Base makes a full recovery from the damages suffered as a result of Hurricane Michael. I am also pleased that the conference report includes my provision to authorize military construction projects at Hurlburt Field. Unfortunately, Northwest Florida is no stranger to the damage inflicted by natural disasters, but I remain committed as ever to securing the necessary federal resources Northwest Florida needs.”

The NDAA conference report authorizes the following provisions that directly impact Northwest Florida:

  • Gulf Test Range (Sec. 4201): authorizes $15 million for the Gulf Range Modernization and the next phase in the Gulf Test Range telemetric modernization process.
  • Tyndall Air Force Base (Sec. 2306): provides guidance on the continued reconstruction efforts at Tyndall Air Force Base.
  • Hurlburt Field (Sec. 4601): $83.1 million for military construction; $44.8 million to build a Special Operations Forces Special Tactics Operations Facility; and $38.3 million to build a Special Operations Forces Combat Aircraft Parking Apron.
