Rubio-Nelson Hurricane Forecasting Improvement Bill Passes Senate
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today welcomed Senate passage of the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act (H.R. 353), which includes the Hurricane Forecast Improvement Act he first introduced in 2015. The bill now heads back to the U.S. House of Representatives for further consideration.
“During the most recent hurricane season, we were again reminded of how imprecise our forecasting can be and the improvements we can still make to our storm tracking,” said Rubio. “Getting the Hurricane Forecast Improvement Act passed will help families, business owners and others better prepare for approaching hurricanes, and reduce unnecessary disruptions to their lives. I encourage the House to swiftly pass this bill and send it to the president’s desk to be signed into law.”
The Hurricane Forecast Improvement Act would codify the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Hurricane Forecast Improvement Project, which aims to reduce the loss of life, injury, and damage to the economy by reducing errors of tracking and intensity forecasts.
