Rubio Meets With Ladies In White Leader Berta Soler

Washington, D.C. – This morning, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in welcoming Ladies in White leader Berta Soler to the U.S. Capitol.

Soler, who is visiting from Cuba, has been one of the leading voices of the pro-democratic movement demanding their human rights from the brutal Castro regime.

“It is always inspiring to meet with Cubans like Berta Soler who are courageously exposing the regime’s brutality from within Cuba, despite beatings, jailings, intimidation and threats against their lives,” said Rubio. “These are extraordinary women whose husbands and sons are political prisoners and who have responded by peacefully marching in the streets to demand freedom for their loved ones and all the Cuban people.

“The regime’s brutal response to these peaceful ladies is a disgrace and something they will be held accountable for,” added Rubio. “The United States must stand with the Cuban people and support groups like the Ladies in White who are doing the most important work inside Cuba to expose the regime for the tyranny it is and for laying the foundation for what will eventually be a free Cuba.”
