Rubio Meets With Guest From Orlando Area Before SOTU
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) met this evening with Oviedo, FL native Conner MacFarlane, his guest for the State of the Union address. MacFarlane lost his father, who was serving in Afghanistan as an Army Reservist, and has since dedicated himself to honoring late veterans.
In 2012, MacFarlane started a program in coordination with the Fallen Floridians’ Memorial Cross Tribute for his Eagle Scout project. The group lays wreaths each Memorial Day on the crosses of over 370 Floridians killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. The program has continued each year with the help of MacFarlane’s sister, and he has received multiple awards for his work. Today, he is a freshman at Seminole State College pursing a degree in Network Systems Technology.
After meeting MacFarlane, Rubio issued the following statement:
“I am privileged to have Conner as my guest for the State of the Union. I have been following his remarkable work and wanted to recognize him for honoring his father’s legacy in a very special way. By remembering those servicemen and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and way of life, Conner has shown by example what it means to pay tribute to our American heroes.”
