Rubio: Latest Anti-Israel Effort a Reminder of Why Americans Distrust the U.N. So Much

Oct 13, 2016 | Press Releases

Miami, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today condemned the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) approval of a resolution denying Jewish and Christian ties to holy sites in Jerusalem. On Tuesday, Rubio and Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) urged the Obama Administration to condemn this effort and oppose its adoption.

“With this latest anti-Israel effort by the U.N., we’re reminded again why the American people distrust it so much. While the world’s worst human rights violators are allowed to run amok in a human rights commission that’s supposed to highlight abuses and stop them, anti-Semitic U.N. agencies continue to target the Middle East’s only free market democracy. And now they shamefully attempt to rewrite history and deny Jewish and Christian people have any connection with Jerusalem. This is just another attempt in UNESCO’s disturbing trend of attacking Israel and delegitimizing the Jewish state and does nothing to promote peace. I continue to stand with Israel, and this latest action reinforces the importance of continuing to withhold American funding from UNESCO.”
