Rubio In Orlando: In The Face Of Evil, Good Will Always Prevail
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement after visiting Orlando to meet with first responders and pay respects to the victims and their families in Sunday’s terrorist attack:
“Today, I joined President Obama, Vice President Biden, Senator Nelson and Representative Corrine Brown in Orlando to pay respect to those lives lost in last week’s senseless act of hatred and terror. Jeanette and I continue to grieve for the Orlando community and all those affected by the attack.
“Today I spoke with first responders, and I reiterated my gratitude for their bravery and service. Seeing firsthand the resilience of the people of Orlando is an example of everything that is good about our country. While this attack was intended to inflict fear on our people and society, we have instead seen that the power of human kindness and bravery trumps all evil.
“Confronting the threat of violent homegrown radicalization is one of the greatest counterterrorism challenges our law enforcement and intelligence community faces. As radical Islam seeks to destroy free peoples everywhere, this attack does not diminish our resolve to defeat the evil that exists in our world. Terrorism cannot take away from us our way of life or our freedom.
“This past week has been a trying one for the Orlando community, but we will emerge stronger than ever. America will emerge stronger than ever. It is my honor to serve the people of Orlando, and I thank them for their response to such overwhelming hate and unimaginable loss. They have shown the world that even in the face of evil, good will always prevail.”
