Rubio Hurricane Recovery Center in St. Augustine Helps 257 Floridians Today
St. Augustine, FL – The office of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) hosted a comprehensive recovery assistance center in St. Augustine today for residents affected by Hurricane Matthew. Due to high demand, the event remained open overtime, and by last count at least 257 Floridians had been assisted, including 201 requiring specific assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
A local seafood establishment was forced to lay off its employees due to the storm’s impact on the business, and about half of them sought temporary unemployment assistance.
“I want to thank all the agencies and local officials who came out today to assist the people impacted by Hurricane Matthew, and especially the agencies and case workers that stayed well past the scheduled closing time to make sure everyone who came was served,” said Rubio. “When a natural disaster like this strikes, it’s the role of government at all levels to provide a safety net to help our people get back on their feet and coordinate a response that ensures they are able to do just that. As our state continues recovering from Hurricane Matthew, my office stands ready to assist with any needs that may arise or any problems people encounter with getting stuff done.”
