Rubio Denounces Venezuelan Dictator Maduro’s Snatching of Opposition Leaders

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today after Venezuelan opposition leaders Leopoldo López and Antonio Ledezma were taken from their homes by the regime of dictator Nicolás Maduro:

“Early this morning, the Maduro regime responded to President Trump’s sanctions against the dictator by snatching Venezuelan opposition leaders Leopoldo López and Antonio Ledezma from their homes. Just last Friday, Vice President Pence spoke to Mr. López by phone, which is why there should be no doubt that his arrest is a direct challenge to President Trump. As the president stated two weeks ago, and the vice president reiterated last Friday, if the Maduro regime imposed its Constituent Assembly, the United States would respond with strong and swift economic actions. This is a promise I remain confident the president will keep.”
