Rubio, Colleagues Reintroduce Legislation to Defund Critical Race Theory in American History and Civics Education
Critical Race Theory is a Marxist-inspired doctrine that teaches children that America is fundamentally racist. The U.S. Department of Education is using taxpayer dollars to prioritize Critical Race Theory in American history and civics in classrooms nationwide.
U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and Mike Braun (R-IN) reintroduced the Protect Equality and Civics Education (PEACE) Act to prohibit taxpayer dollars from funding and promoting divisive concepts, such as Critical Race Theory, under the priorities outlined in the U.S. Department of Education’s American History and Civics Education program.
- “Critical Race Theory is an outrageous, Marxist teaching that has no place in our schools. I will not allow American history to be rewritten by the radical left. It is not only inaccurate but also dangerous. We need to protect our students from propaganda that seeks to divide and indoctrinate young children into believing they are inherently racist solely based on the color of their skin.” – Senator Rubio
- “Woke concepts like critical race theory only serve to spread division. We are all created equal in God’s image, and any implication otherwise is just plain wrong. Taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for liberal academic agendas.” – Senator Cramer
- “Critical Race Theory is antithetical to the American ideal that all are created equal. It should never be endorsed, much less funded by the Department of Education. Our bill would stop federal taxpayer dollars from being used to promote Critical Race Theory and protect our students from these divisive and misguided teachings.” – Senator Braun
