Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement congratulating Theresa May on her ascension to serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom: 
 
“I congratulate Theresa May on her selection as leader of the Conservative Party and her elevation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I enjoyed meeting with Ms. May during a trip to London in 2013 and look forward to working with her to deepen and strengthen our truly special relationship with the United Kingdom in the years ahead.
 
“Our countries face many challenges. As Prime Minister May negotiates Britain’s new relationship with the European Union, I will continue to be an advocate for increased trade and security ties between our two countries. I also want to commend Prime Minister David Cameron for his many years of service to his country and his commitment to the transatlantic relationship during his tenure as prime minister.”
