Rubio Comments On The United Kingdom’s Decision To Leave European Union
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union:
“The United Kingdom is a beacon of freedom and democracy, and their citizens have chosen a new path for their country after a competitive referendum worthy of a free people. The United States and the United Kingdom have stood together through many moments of uncertainty and crisis over the last century. Our people have bled together, died together, and worked together to keep our citizens safe and to promote a more democratic and prosperous world. We are fundamentally intertwined by a common culture, language and shared history.
“None of that will change now that the British people have decided to leave the European Union. America will continue to stand with the United Kingdom as the British government decides what is the best path going forward. We will continue to deepen and hopefully strengthen our trade and security bonds.
“Even as we increase our ties with the United Kingdom, the United States will continue to support a strong, economically prosperous and peaceful Europe in the years to come.”
