Rubio, Colleagues Introduce Legislation Countering Iran-China Ties
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the Iran China Accountability Act. The bill would prohibit the provision of taxpayer dollars to advance a nuclear agreement with Iran until the Iranian regime terminates its ties with the Chinese Communist Party and terrorist groups like Hamas.
“A renewed nuclear deal with Iran would not only benefit the regime in Tehran, it would similarly reward and enrich the Chinese Communist Party,” Rubio said. “We cannot allow the Biden Administration to continue making concessions to dictators in return for empty promises. It is dangerous and anti-American.”
“The Obama-Biden Iran Deal has always been a failure,” Blackburn said. “The Biden Administration should not re-enter a deal that legitimizes the Iranian regime — especially while they continue to fund terrorism, endorse Communist China’s dangerous government, and facilitate genocide. This legislation will stop taxpayer dollars from enabling the Biden White House to back this corrupt regime.”
Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Mike Braun (R-IN), and Ted Cruz (R-TX) are original cosponsors. Congressman Bob Good (R-VA) introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.
Specifically, the Iran China Accountability Act would:
- Require any nuclear agreement to be ratified by a two-thirds vote of the U.S. Senate;
- Prohibit the obligation or expenditure of any funds for a nuclear agreement until:
- Iran terminates all agreements involving the transfer of funds from China and terminates strategic security and military partnerships with China,
- Iran terminates all ties and transfers of cash to Iranian proxy forces (including Hamas)
- Iran verifies the destruction of all chemical weapons/materials/infrastructure, and
- The CCP ceases the incarceration of Uyghurs;
- Require a report from the Secretary of State to Congress detailing how any future agreement with Iran would meet each requirement listed above; and
- Condemn Hamas-incited terrorist attacks on Israel.
