Rubio Calls For Probe Into Death Of Prosecutor Investigating Iran’s Role In 1994 Terror Attack
Washington, D.C.– U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement regarding the introduction of S.Res.167, also co-sponsored by Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL), recognizing the courageous work and life of prosecutor Alberto Nisman, and calling for a swift and transparent investigation into his tragic death in Buenos Aires on January 18, 2015:
“There has always been something rotten about the Kirchner government’s apparent reluctance to bring to justice the terrorists responsible for the 1994 Buenos Aires Jewish center. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Nisman did not live long enough to reveal the full extent of his life’s work investigating this attack, but that important work must continue in order to honor the victims and further show the world the true nature of the Iranian terrorist state.”
Nisman was in charge of investigating Iran’s role in the 1994 terrorist attack against a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people and wounded more than 300. Nisman was found shot in the head in his Buenos Aires apartment the day before he was scheduled to present his findings to Argentina’s Congress.
In January, Rubio wrote a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, highlighting the implications of Nisman’s unfinished work for U.S. national security, and called on the administration to do everything it can to ensure that his investigation into the Argentine Jewish Mutual Aid Society (AMIA) attacks and Iranian activities in the region is continued.
