Rubio Attends 2012 Service Academy Reception in Tampa, Tours MacDill Air Force Base
As a United States Senator, I have the distinct honor of nominating men and women for selection to our nation’s four armed service academies: the Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, the Military Academy at West Point, NY, the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO, and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. I had the pleasure this weekend to meet and congratulate the young men and women from Florida who have received offers of admission from these institutions. Gaining acceptance to one of these four prestigious academies is a testament to each individual’s hard work and extraordinary character.
Their decision to step up and serve our nation is one that involves great sacrifice and dedication. After attending a reception for the accepted students this past Saturday at MacDill Air Force Base, I was reminded that our freedom will continue to be in the best of hands. I am confident these men and women will continue their individual records of excellence while representing Florida with honor and respect in the United States military. Without the sacrifices made by these brave men and women, our nation would not be the great nation it is today.
Prior to the event honoring service academy nominees, I had a chance to tour MacDill Air Force Base. While there, I met with Colonel Lenny Richoux, Admiral William McRaven and Vice Admiral Harward.
