Rubio Supports TikTok Ownership Change, Calls for New Legislation
Miami, FL — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement on reports that the Trump Administration will soon order ByteDance to divest of its ownership of TikTok’s U.S. operations.
“In its current form, TikTok represents a potential threat to personal privacy and our national security,” Rubio said. “I applaud the Trump Administration for taking this critical step, but we must do more than simply remove ByteDance from the equation. Moving forward, we must establish a framework of standards that must be met before a high-risk, foreign-based app is allowed to operate on American telecommunications networks and devices. I am preparing legislation to do just that, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Administration to ensure Americans’ privacy and our nation’s security are protected.”
