PHOTO RELEASE: Rubio Presents Replica Congressional Gold Medal To Borinqueneer In Oviedo
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) presented a replica Congressional Gold Medal to CSM Anibal Albertorio, a veteran of the U.S. Army’s 65th Infantry Regiment, known as the “Borinqueneers.”
Like several other Borinqueneers from Florida, CSM Albertorio was unable to attend the medal’s unveiling ceremony in Washington last month for medical reasons. Rubio presented the 86-year-old his replica medal in the comfort of his home in Oviedo, Florida, surrounded by family.
“I was privileged to meet CSM Albertorio and personally thank him for his service. He courageously fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and is part of a distinguished group of American heroes. I was humbled to present him this well-deserved award today.” Rubio said. “Being involved in the effort to secure this tribute for the Borinqueneers has been one of my greatest honors as a U.S. senator, and the long-overdue medal represents our nation’s gratitude for their time of service.”
The Congressional Gold Medal was designated for the Borinqueneers in June 2014 when President Obama signed a law that Rubio originally co-sponsored in the Senate. For more information on the upcoming Florida celebration, where the Borinqueneers from throughout the state will receive their replicas, please call the national committee at 407-366-2479 or visit www.BCGMCeremony.org.
