Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined Your World with Neil Cavuto to discuss the upcoming impeachment trial in the Senate, the Biden Administration’s unilateral actions, and all things COVID-19.

On the upcoming impeachment trial in the Senate: 
 
“It stokes the fire. This is a country that’s already deeply divided. Politics is very emotional. People literally hate each other in this country over politics. And now, on top of that fire we are going to pour all of this gasoline. … This actually isn’t just a waste of time, it’s going to hurt America.”
 
On President Biden’s record-breaking pace of executive actions:
 
“I am very concerned about it. This growth of executive power in this country has been going on for multiple presidencies. … Right now, what [President Biden] seems to be going for is checking off the boxes of a liberal wish list. 
 
“You look at the Keystone Pipeline cancellation. That does nothing for the environment, nothing for climate change whatsoever. It does upset the Canadians, an important ally. And it just put thousands of people out of work overnight … you just put thousands of families on the unemployment line with a stroke of a pen just to please your radical base.”
 
On the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations and what is needed:
 
“I think Florida has gotten it right by prioritizing seniors and people at risk of ending up in a hospital or losing their life. Every state will have to make decisions like that. But I certainly think that we could work together — that there could be a strong bipartisan support for doing what needs to be done to get 100 million vaccinated in 100 days.”
 
On the need to reopen the economy and schools:
 
“In some places, kids have not gone back to school in almost a year now The costs of that are extraordinary. … There are many small businesses out of work. Entire industries like hospitality have been wiped out. The way to make good public policy is you have to constantly weigh the costs against the benefits of any action, and I think that perspective was lost here, and a lot of places learning that lesson the hard way.”
 
On COVID-19 negotiations with the Biden Administration:
 
“They know $1.9 trillion is not going to pass, so what they’ve done is add weeks of delay on getting something done. The cost is a lot, but we’ve already spent a lot of money and we’re probably going to have to spend more because otherwise we risk damage to the very structure and architecture of our economy, some of which would take a decade or longer to reverse.
 
“On things like the minimum wage — Florida just passed the minimum wage through the voters — that in and of itself is not the problem. The problem is that it’s an additional cost on small businesses. So here you’ve been out of work or out of business for a while, you’re going to try to reopen, and suddenly your labor costs are going to go up but your profits and revenue are not there yet. So either you’re not going to reopen or you’re going to hire less people at a time when we need to get more people back to work. …
 
“If [President Biden] focused on COVID relief, on additional payments to individuals who need it, getting more vaccines …  you could have a very strong, bipartisan bill.”
