Miami, Florida— U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) yesterday met with Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, Senate President Carl Murat Cantave, President of the Chamber of Deputies Gary Bodeau, U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Michele J. Sison, U.N. Special Representative of the Secretary General Helen LaLime, U.N. Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH) Police Commissioner Serge Therriault, Haitian National Police Director General Michel-Ange Gedeon, members of local Haitian political parties, and members of the Haitian business community and civil society to discuss the ongoing situation in Haiti. During his trip, Rubio highlighted the importance of constructive and inclusive dialogue from all parties. The Senator also expressed the importance of holding elections in the country and his continued support for the Haitian National Police, as well as respect for the rule of law and democracy.
Rubio is Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
