English & Español: VIDEO: Rubio Applauds Inclusion of STOP School Violence Act in Spending Bill
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today commented on the inclusion of the Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Act in the upcoming spending bill. Earlier this month, Rubio introduced the bill with Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chris Murphy (D-CT), and 17 others. The STOP Act is included in Rubio’s plan to address gun violence, a multi-faceted approach to prevent future mass shootings by creating a more effective system to prevent gun violence before it happens.
A broadcast-quality version of Rubio’s remarks is available here. A transcript of Rubio’s video statement is below:
RUBIO: When I first got up here after the Parkland shooting my number one priority was to help states be able to identify someone that can do a shooting like that and stop them before they took action. We were able to get that law in the spending bill that we’re going to pass here before the end of this week and that’s a big development because we thought that would take a lot longer to get there. But we are very happy that by the end of this week there should be close to a billion dollars over the next ten years available so that states can set up these systems to identify potential shooters and stop them before they kill anybody.
