U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued a statement highlighting the importance of further strengthening U.S.-Italian relations.
- “I want to welcome Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the U.S. and wish her a productive visit. She has proven herself a strong leader for Italy by making difficult, but necessary decisions that serve her nation’s interest. Prime Minister Meloni and her government have also set an example for Europe on what it looks like to advance European and international security.
- “She has called out Iran’s violent suppression of peaceful protesters, supported and armed Ukraine, and anticipates Italy will leave China’s Belt and Road Initiative. She is also leading the way in resolving the migration crisis that has challenged Europe for years. I urge the Biden Administration to find opportunities to work with and support Italy, particularly against any efforts by Beijing to target them economically.” – Senator Rubio
