English/Español: Rubio Comments on the United Nations’ Venezuela Report
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement after the UN’s Independent International Fact Finding Mission on Venezuela released a report highlighting “that Venezuelan authorities and security forces have since 2014 planned and executed serious human rights violations” against Venezuelan citizens:
“Today, the UN’s independent fact-finding mission released a report acknowledging what we have long known: Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and senior members of his criminal regime are responsible for crimes against humanity. For years, the Maduro crime syndicate has violated the rule of law, committed egregious human rights violations, and undermined democratic order. Through torture, arbitrary disappearances, inhumane aggressions, and politically motivated arrests, the regime has persecuted members of the opposition, civilians, and members of the press. Future generations will remember the stain left on Venezuela’s history under the Maduro narco-regime. There must be justice and accountability for these crimes, including from the United Nations who should read their own report and immediately remove Maduro’s accomplices from representation in UN bodies such as the Human Rights Council.”
Rubio is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues. He is currently Acting Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
RUBIO COMENTA ACERCA DEL INFORME DE LAS NACIONES UNIDAS SOBRE VENEZUELA
Washington, D.C.
