Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement ahead of the sham regional elections in Venezuela scheduled for November 21, 2021:
“As we near yet another round of sham elections in Venezuela, the United States must send a clear and unequivocal message to dictator Nicolás Maduro and his cronies: U.S. sanctions will remain in place until verifiably free, fair, and democratic elections are held in the nation and all political prisoners are released,” Rubio said. “The Biden Administration must push and encourage democratic allies, both in the region and in the European Union, to remain firm in their support of a truly democratic process without Maduro’s interference.
“The individuals running, who are disguised as the opposition, are the same ones assisting the brutal regime,” Rubio continued. “Giving any legitimacy to these sham elections will only prolong the agony of the Venezuelan people and perpetuate Maduro’s grip on power.”
Rubio is the Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.

Washington, D.C. — El senador estadounidense Marco Rubio (R-FL) emitió el siguiente comunicado antes de los falsos comicios regionales en Venezuela programadas para el 21 de noviembre del 2021:
“A medida que nos acercamos a otra ronda de elecciones falsas en Venezuela, EE.UU. debe enviar un mensaje claro e inequívoco al dictador Nicolás Maduro y a sus secuaces: las sanciones de EE.UU. permanecerán vigentes hasta que se celebren comicios libres, justas y democráticas en el país y cuando todos los presos políticos sean puestos en libertad”, Rubio dijo. “La Administración Biden debe instar a nuestros aliados democráticos, tanto los de nuestra región como los de la Unión Europea, para que mantengan su firme apoyo a un proceso verdaderamente democrático sin la interferencia de Maduro.
“Los que se postulan, disfrazados como figuras de la oposición, son los mismos que ayudan al régimen”, Rubio continuó. “El darle legitimidad a estas elecciones falsas sólo prolongará la agonía del pueblo venezolano y perpetuará el control de Maduro en el poder”.
