Rubio Secures Reforms, Reauthorizes Indispensable National Security Authorities

Apr 19, 2024 | Press Releases

The House and Senate passed a two-year reauthorization of Title VII of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which includes Section 702 authorities. The legislation also contains important reforms to both Title VII and Title I of FISA. The bill now heads to the President for signature into law.

Vice Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Marco Rubio (R-FL) supported the bill, which included critical reforms, guardrails, and transparency provisions he proposed in November 2023.

  • “702 is an indispensable national security tool. Without it, the United States would have lost our ability to spy on foreign adversaries. This reauthorization gives lawmakers the opportunity to evaluate the impact of important reforms that directly address past abuses, including those conducted by the Obama Administration FBI. This is an important step towards rebuilding trust while keeping Americans safe.” – Senator Rubio
