Rubio, Rosen Reintroduce Bipartisan Bill Preventing Support for Hamas
Foreign financial and material support are fueling Hamas’ terrorism against the Jewish State of Israel, including the deadly October 7 terrorist attack that killed 1,200 people.
U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jacky Rosen (D-NV) reintroduced the bipartisan Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad International Terrorism Support Prevention Act of 2024 to sanction foreign entities and governments supporting Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, or affiliates.
- “The barbaric terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7th by Hamas savages reaffirms the importance of sanctioning the group’s enablers and the governments who provide material support to these terrorists. As a nation, which stands unequivocally in support of Israel, we must ensure we’re focused on eliminating any source of international material support to Hamas or radical groups alike.” – Senator Rubio
- “On October 7, Iranian-backed Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists brutally murdered, raped, and kidnapped innocent civilians. Their terror attacks cannot go unanswered. The U.S. must break up the foreign networks that finance these terrorist groups and ensure such an attack never happens again. Our bipartisan bill would hold accountable anyone who provides financial or material support to these terrorist organizations that seek to inflict harm on Israelis and Americans.” – Senator Rosen
The FDD sponsors this legislation.
- “On October 7th, 2023, Hamas conducted and led other Gaza-based terrorists in their brutal attack against Israel utilizing the abundant financial resources provided by their state sponsors and financiers. FDD Action is pleased to support this critical bipartisan legislation as part of the congressional response to that attack which imposes mandatory sanctions on senior Hamas members and its supporters, along with members and supporters of other terrorist groups like Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). The bill would also extend new sanctions to individuals and companies that support these groups as well as the foreign state actors that provide them safe harbor abroad. This bill sends an especially clear message to countries like Qatar and Turkey, which will face new consequences if they continue to harbor Hamas operatives.” – Matthew Zweig, Senior Policy Director
Flashback … In November 2023, the U.S. House of Representatives passed companion legislation.
