Mayport welcomed aboard U.S. Senator for Florida Marco Rubio Feb. 11 for a tour of the base to discuss future homeport plans and strategic operations for the base.
Rubio and staff members met with Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/ U.S. 4th Fleet (COMUSNAVSO/4thFLT), Rear Adm. Victor G. Cochrane said the tour was able to “show off” some of the base’s most important projects.
“We showed off our newest headquarters – Commander, U.S. 4th Fleet. Then, we took the senator on a windshield tour highlighting wharf recapitalization, energy projects, hangar recapitalization projects, public private venture for family housing and harbor operations on an extremely busy ship movement day,” said Cochrane.
