Florida Times-Union: U.S. Senator Visits Naval Station Mayport

Mayport welcomed aboard U.S. Senator for Florida Marco Rubio Feb. 11 for a tour of the base to discuss future homeport plans and strategic operations for the base.

Rubio and staff members met with Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/ U.S. 4th Fleet (COMUSNAVSO/4thFLT), Rear Adm. Victor G. Guillory, to talk about the command’s missions and joint training opportunities. Following the brief at COMUSNAVSO/4thFLT, Rubio met NS Mayport Commanding Officer, Capt. Douglas F. Cochrane, and members of Mayport Public Works for a windshield tour of the base.

Cochrane said the tour was able to “show off” some of the base’s most important projects.

“We showed off our newest headquarters – Commander, U.S. 4th Fleet. Then, we took the senator on a windshield tour highlighting wharf recapitalization, energy projects, hangar recapitalization projects, public private venture for family housing and harbor operations on an extremely busy ship movement day,” said Cochrane.
