TOMORROW: Rubio Joins Local Law Enforcement, Community Leaders to Recognize Student Heroes

Miami, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) tomorrow will attend the ‘Do The Right Thing’ Annual Awards Night to recognize four Student Heroes of the Year from Miami-Dade County elementary, middle, and high schools. Each student will receive a congressional certificate from both Rubio and Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), as well as a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of the Do The Right Thing Program.
 
In addition to honoring the program’s Top 10 winners of the 2017-2018 school year with certificates awarded by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina, a host of dignitaries, including a representative from Senator Nelson’s office and Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, will be on hand to pay tribute to the student heroes in honor of the Parkland victims and survivors.

Background:
Do The Right Thing of Miami, Inc. is a non-profit organization, operating in cooperation with the City of Miami Police Department and other local law enforcement to recognize and reward children for positive behavior, accomplishments and good deeds.  Since its inception in July 1990, the program has directly impacted over 250,000 students in Miami-Dade County alone. The Miami-based initiative has been so successful that 63 other law enforcement agencies in the United States, one in London, England and three in Germany have implemented their own Do The Right Thing programs.
