WASHINGTON – El senador republicano Marco Rubio (Florida) se ha sumado a los esfuerzos de las autoridades puertorriqueños par que se le otorgue póstumamente la Medalla de Honor del Congreso al soldado boricua Modesto Cartagena.
Por casi cuatro décadas, la familia de Cartagena ha intentado llamar la atención del Pentágono sobre los sucesos en que el militar boricua – quien perteneció al regimiento 65 de Infantería- habría logrado eliminar a casi medio centenar de “enemigos” en la guerra de Corea.
“Sus amigos siempre me dijeron que fue un héroe. Pero, el Pentágono le ha dado bola negra a los miembros del regimiento 65 de Infantería”, dijo su hijo, del mismo nombre, en una entrevista.
