Rubio Statement on Terrorist Attacks in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota

Sep 19, 2016 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today regarding the terrorist attacks on American soil this weekend:

“The terrorist attacks in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota over the weekend are the latest reminders that America is not immune to these attacks on our own soil, and we must remain vigilant in the face of evolving terrorist threats. Fortunately, no innocent people were killed this time, but as we have seen in cities like Boston, Chattanooga, Ft. Hood, San Bernardino and Orlando, radical Islamic terrorists are eager to inflict violence in our communities. From lone wolf attacks carried out by self-radicalized individuals, to coordinated plots directed by groups like ISIS, the jihadists’ war against the West has entered a dangerous new phase.

“I applaud the FBI, police officers, and state and local authorities for acting quickly to track all leads and get to the bottom of these events. Our prayers are with those who were injured. We must do more as a society to combat radicalization online, identify extremists early, and use law enforcement and intelligence capabilities to do everything we can to prevent these attacks in the first place.  Ultimately, instability in the Middle East is driving more refugees to Europe’s and America’s shores. We must work with our European and Arab partners to address the root causes of this instability, destroy these extremist groups, eliminate their safe havens, and enhance the vetting of immigrants to ensure we are not granting citizenship or refugee status to terrorists.”
