Rubio Slams CFIUS’s Refusal to Take Action Regarding Fufeng Farmland Purchase
There have been growing national security concerns as foreign adversaries, especially China, acquire land near U.S. military installations, which they could use to monitor the activities of our armed forces. Earlier this year, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and colleagues demanded a full CFIUS review as Chinese Communist Party-backed firms invest near military bases in the U.S.
Senator Rubio released a statement following reports that CFIUS will not block Fufeng Group’s recent purchase of roughly 370 acres of land near Grand Forks, North Dakota because farmland acquisition “is not a covered transaction.”
- “The Chinese Communist Party should not be allowed to purchase land near our military bases. It is dangerous and dumb. Congress mandated that CFIUS protect America’s national security and that should be its first priority, not making it easier for Chinese businesses, with ties to Beijing, to operate in the United States.”– Senator Rubio
