Rubio Releases Pro-American Industrial Policy Agenda for the 118th Congress
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) reintroduced five pieces of pro-American industrial policy legislation for the 118th Congress.
- “We cannot be a strong nation if we are dependent on hostile foreign regimes for basic goods, medicines, and critical technologies. There is growing bipartisan support to prioritize rebuilding our critical industries. From lifesaving medicines to rare-earth minerals and everything in between, we need to be a nation that makes things again. Doing so will strengthen our nation’s supply chains and bring good jobs back to America.” – Senator Rubio
Rubio detailed his vision for a pro-American industrial policy in a Medium post.
Below is the list of bills Rubio reintroduced:
- National Development Strategy and Coordination Act. First introduced in December 2022, the legislation seeks to rebuild critical industries in the United States by increasing strategic coordination amongst federal finance programs. Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.
- MMEDS Act. First introduced in August 2020 and reintroduced in April 2021, the legislation encourages companies currently producing medical devices and pharmaceuticals abroad to relocate to the U.S., including Puerto Rico. Representative Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR) introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.
- American Innovation and Manufacturing Act. First introduced in March 2021, the legislation would create a new facility in the Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) program to provide preferential and patient capital to America’s small manufacturers. Senator Risch (R-ID) is a cosponsor.
- Facilitating the Reshoring of Energy Grid Component Manufacturing Act.
