Rubio Postpones Markup of Small Business Act Reauthorization

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, postponed the previously scheduled business meeting to consider the SBA Reauthorization and Improvement Act of 2019, the bipartisan product of the committee’s work to comprehensively reauthorize the Small Business Act for the first time in nearly two decades.
 
“Legislating requires compromise, but it is now clear that there are irreconcilable differences when it comes to easing the regulatory burden of America’s more than 30 million small businesses,” Rubio said. “The Chairman’s Mark, which was scheduled to be marked up in committee today, contains dozens of important priorities from every senator and much-needed reforms to help America’s small businesses compete in the 21st century. Unfortunately, the minority is demanding we strip all references to regulatory reform — including reforms requested by their own members. Therefore, this bill will not be moving forward.”
 
The Chairman’s mark, released by Rubio last week, is the bipartisan product of the committee’s eight legislative hearings and includes 15 individual bills from committee members. It has also received extensive praise from small businesses and advocacy groups:
