Rubio Opposes Heinzelman Nomination
Washington, D.C. — Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Vice Chairman Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a statement after voting not to advance Ms. Kate Elizabeth Heinzelman, a Biden Administration nominee who has done work for Shanghai-based pharmaceutical company Wu Xi App Tec Co, to serve as General Counsel of the Central Intelligence Agency.
“Any nominee who is up for a key national security post and comes from a law firm or other entity that performs work for the Chinese Communist Party or a Chinese state-directed entity requires extra scrutiny,” Rubio said. “I have serious concerns with Ms. Heinzelman’s nomination, specifically her refusal to state clearly she would not work for a Chinese government-controlled company in the future.”
Rubio previously opposed the nomination of Mr. Christopher Fonzone, who had done legal work for Huawei, to serve as General Counsel of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Rubio also opposed the nomination of Mr. Kenneth Wainstein, who had done work for China National Offshore Oil Corporation, to serve as Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security.
