Rubio Opens Application Process For Service Academy Nominations
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is inviting Florida students who wish to be nominated for a service academy to apply through his website. The four service academies requiring a congressional nomination include the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
“Each year, I am honored to have the opportunity to nominate young men and women from across Florida who demonstrate leadership, commitment and integrity, the qualities required to pursue the top military training our nation has to offer,” said Rubio. “I encourage all interested students to apply, and I wish applicants the best of luck as they go through the admission process to our service academies.”
Since 2011, Rubio has nominated nearly 300 Florida students to service academies. Of those, more than half received appointments and are currently attending service academies. Two cohorts of nominees have graduated (classes of 2015 and 2016) and are now serving as officers in our nation’s armed services.
For those desiring admission in the fall of 2018, Rubio’s deadline for application is September 6, 2017. In addition to securing a congressional nomination, candidates must also apply directly through the admissions process of their service academies of choice. Each Member of Congress is allowed a limited number of nominations per academy.
In addition to applying to their two U.S. senators, applicants are also encouraged to apply with their U.S. representative. Confirm your congressional district here.
