Washington, D.C. – This week, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, named Magellan Transport Logistics of Jacksonville, Florida, as the U.S. Senate Small Business of the Week.
Rubio released the following video message to congratulate Magellan Transport Logistics as the Small Business of the Week. A broadcast quality version can be found here.
“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, each week I highlight a small business that exemplifies the hard work and dedication that embodies the American entrepreneurial spirit. This week, it is my pleasure to honor Magellan Transport Logistics, of Jacksonville, Florida, as the Senate Small Business of the Week. Founded in 2006, Magellan Transport Logistics is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business dedicated to providing its customers with a wide range of transportation needs.
“Today, Tom Piatak serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Magellan. Under his leadership the company has quickly become a leader in supporting the vast transportation needs of its clients. Magellan actively supports the Wounded Warrior Project, and their commitment to veterans in their community is a testament to the company’s values.
“Magellan has also used their vast network of trucks and knowledge of transportation to help in times of need here in Florida. Following Hurricane Michael, Magellan worked directly with FEMA, providing forty trucks and three staff members as part of the disaster recovery effort. I congratulate Tom and the entire team at Magellan Transport Logistics. They exemplify what it means for a small business to serve a community, and I wish them nothing but success in all their future endeavors.”
Tom Piatak, a United States Military Academy graduate and combat engineer during Operation Desert Storm, is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Magellan. Under his guidance, the company has excelled in supporting the vast transportation needs of its clients. In March of 2018, Magellan announced the acquisition of a 47,000 square-foot warehouse and hiring of 100 employees over the next five years, furthering its investment in the Jacksonville community.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Senator Rubio continues the tradition of honoring America’s small businesses and entrepreneurs. The Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship oversees proposed legislation on matters relating to the Small Business Administration and investigates all problems relating to America’s small businesses.
