Rubio Introduces Bill to Ban CCP Members from Obtaining Extended Stay Visas to U.S.

Nov 18, 2022 | Press Releases

Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members are eligible to receive 10-year, multi-entry B-1 and B-2 visas to the United States for vacation and to perform non-official government business.

To disincentivize Chinese nationals from joining the CCP and further restrict Chinese espionage and propaganda operations, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced legislation to ban the issuance of B-1 and B-2 nonimmigrant visas to the 93 million CCP members. Chinese nationals would be eligible for other visa categories, including diplomatic, student, athlete/artists, exchange visitors, intra-company, physicians, and investors. U.S. Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) are original cosponsors.

  • “The Chinese Communist Party seeks to weaken and undermine the United States in its plan to become the world’s sole power. Every single party member is tasked with accomplishing this goal. It defies common sense to allow CCP members to vacation, shop, or conduct business in our country.” — Senator Rubio
  • “You don’t need to have CIA-level clearance to know China is a bad actor. We need a strategic decoupling from China. Every day, the CCP actively works against the United States’ interests. Our bill provides greater scrutiny of visas for Chinese Communist Party members regardless of how long they want to enter our country.” — Senator Cramer
  • “Again and again, we’ve seen terrifying examples of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents coming to America to steal our intellectual property, track our citizens and infiltrate critical research institutions. Communist China is our enemy and is on a quest for total world domination. Many Chinese visitors are well-meaning and should be granted entry into the United States, but we cannot be blind to the risks posed by the CCP. The federal government must mandate thorough vetting to ensure that visitors from Communist China are not CCP agents or associated with the CCP in any way. I urge my colleagues to join us in supporting this good bill which will keep our country safe, keep foreign spies out of America and protect our valuable trade secrets.” — Senator Scott
  • “Year after year, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) steals intellectual property worth trillions of dollars from companies around the world. This blatant theft should not be tolerated in the United States. We must do everything we can to stop harmful foreign interference in our society and economy, including banning members of the CCP from obtaining B-1 and B-2 nonimmigrant visas. China’s increasingly hostile role on the world stage and willingness to orchestrate cyber and intellectual crime has made them our top adversary. It makes no sense to allow those who would harm the United States to lawfully enter our country for any reason.” — Senator Tuberville
