Rubio: Herbert Hoover Dike Ribbon Cutting Is Important Milestone For Florida’s Water Resources
After more than 15 years, the rehabilitation of the Herbert Hoover Dike has been completed. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) played a key role in expediting the rehabilitation project by securing full funding to complete construction of the dike. In 2019, Rubio and then-President Trump visited Lake Okeechobee to celebrate progress on Herbert Hoover Dike construction and Everglades restoration. The rehabilitation of the Herbert Hoover Dike will prevent the kind of catastrophic flooding that killed thousands in the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane. It will also enable the implementation of a new lake management schedule for the eight million Floridians whose lives and wellbeing are impacted by the lake every day.
- “Today’s ribbon cutting for the rehabilitation of the Herbert Hoover Dike is an important milestone for water management flexibility and flood resilience in Central and Southern Florida. I was proud to fight to secure full funding for this project in 2018, and I will continue working to improve the resilience of Florida’s communities and economy by protecting and restoring Florida’s water infrastructure and resources.” – Senator Rubio
Members of his staff attended the ribbon cutting.
