Rubio Earns Perfect “100” Score From ACU
ACU Chairman Al Cardenas: “I applaud and thank the many Senators and Representatives who achieved perfect or high scores on our 2011 ACU Ratings of Congress. Their unwavering commitment to our shared conservative principles stands in stark contrast to the liberals in Washington who continue to rubberstamp President Obama’s failed agenda for America.”
Washington, D.C. – The American Conservative Union (ACU), America’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative group, announced today that U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) voting record earned him a perfect “100” based on its 2011 Congressional Scorecard. This puts Rubio among just nine Senators with a score of 100 and earned him the title of “Defender of Liberty.” In their analysis, ACU included the votes to repeal President Obama’s job-killing health care law, to halt the Environmental Protection Agency’s burdensome regulations, against raising the debt limit in the absence of comprehensive fiscal reforms, and in favor of a pro-growth trade agreement with Colombia, among other key votes.
Following this announcement, Rubio said, “I ran for the U.S. Senate promising Floridians that I would stand up to Washington’s reckless spending and its assault on the free enterprise system. I made clear promises that I would support conservative alternatives to restore fiscal discipline and promote our free enterprise system, and I’m pleased that the groups entrusted with holding me and my colleagues accountable are validating my fulfillment of those promises.”
The ACU Ratings of Congress have been the definitive guide for decades on where Members of Congress stand on conservative issues. Rubio’s full scorecard from the first session of the 112th Congress is available here. Rubio also earned the “Defender Of Economic Freedom” award from the Club For Growth, an “A+” rating from Americans for Prosperity, and is rated the second most conservative senator on the Heritage Action For America Scorecard.
