Rubio Continues Push To Defund ObamaCare In Jacksonville
Rubio: “If you go out and do what I’m doing, which is meeting with small and mid-sized businesses, not people up on Capitol Hill, not, you know, people in the media … they’re telling you that they’re in a holding pattern until they figure out how they’re going to comply with this or even what it’s going to look like.”

Senator Marco Rubio
Jacksonville, FL
August 12, 2013
Senator Marco Rubio: “I don’t want the government to shut down. I want our military to function. I want our Social Security checks to go out. I think we should pass a budget that funds the government. I just don’t think it should fund ObamaCare because it’s a disaster. We shouldn’t waste a single cent more on a disaster. If it shuts down, it’s because the President chooses to do so. It’s the President who’s threatening to shut down the government. It’s the President who is saying that if we don’t fund ObamaCare he wants to shut down the government. I think that’s a bad position for him to have.”
…
Rubio: “Well everyone will have to make up their own minds. I for one am not going to vote for something that funds what I think is going to hurt so many Americans: Republicans, Democrats, including people who once supported it. I would hope the President would listen to his own supporters: to the unions, the Teamsters, the union for the IRS, for goodness sake, who are all saying, ‘At a minimum delay this thing.’ And he has a chance to do that here in October. So hopefully he’ll take up that opportunity to do so because what’s happening with ObamaCare every day, it’s getting worse and it’s going to be harder to implement, it’s going to hurt a lot of people.”
…
Rubio: “ObamaCare is a source of a lot of the uncertainty [for small businesses]. If you go out and do what I’m doing, which is meeting with small and mid-sized businesses, not people up on Capitol Hill, not, you know, people in the media. Meeting with businesses that are having to comply with this law, they’re telling you that they’re in a holding pattern until they figure out how they’re going to comply with this or even what it’s going to look like. So as much as anything – they’re not sitting around worrying about whether the government is – they’re worried about ObamaCare. That’s what they’re worried about and what it means to their bottom line. What coverage are they going to be able to offer to their employees? How much is this going to cost? Are they going to move more people to part-time? Is this the right time to grow a business given all the uncertainty that ObamaCare is creating? I think one of the largest drivers of uncertainty in our economy today is the cloud of ObamaCare hanging over it.”
…
Reporter: “Do you think you have the votes?”
Rubio: “Well, I don’t know. I don’t know where we are today on it. I think we’ve got a lot more convincing to do. But look, I’m open to a better idea. If someone’s got a better idea on how to prevent ObamaCare from hurting millions of Americans, I’m open to it. But right now the only one I’ve been able to identify is the debate we’re going to have in September. And the only thing I’ve said is, ‘I’m not going to vote for a short term budget that funds ObamaCare.’ I’ll vote for one that doesn’t because even though I’ve traditionally not voted for short-term budgets, I’m willing to do so this time if it doesn’t fund ObamaCare.”
